Malaysia-Request for Information on Freehold Properties for Sale in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor

Request for Information on Freehold Properties for Sale in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Circular No 044/2016
Dated 18 Feb 2016
To Members of the Malaysian Bar
Request for Information on Freehold Properties for Sale in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
At the 69th Annual General Meeting ("AGM") of the Malaysian Bar on 14 Mar 2015, Members of the Bar adopted a resolution to increase the levy for the Malaysian Bar Building Fund in order to assist in the purchase of a building so as to house:
(a) the Bar Council Secretariat;
(b) the Kuala Lumpur Bar Secretariat;
(c) the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur); and
(d) the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board.
In the course of the past year, the Bar Council Building Committee initiated and maintained contact with several property agents in its persistent pursuit to acquire a suitable property.  A number of properties have been identified, viewed and considered.  However, the search for an appropriate property that fulfils all our criteria and objectives, bearing in mind the budget, is proving to be quite intricate.

It is in this context that we seek the assistance of Members of the Bar to provide any information that will assist us to identify a suitable building.

The Bar Council has the following two options in mind:

(1)   Option 1

Purchase a building to house the Bar Council Secretariat, the Kuala Lumpur Bar Secretariat, the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur), and the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board.  The requirements for such a building are:
(a) Location: Kuala Lumpur
(b) Nett lettable area: Approximately 100,000 square feet
(c) Tenure: Freehold
(d) Has parking bays
(e) Accessible by public transport
(2)   Option 2
Purchase a building to house the Bar Council Secretariat.
In this scenario, the Bar Council Secretariat will relocate to the new building.  The Kuala Lumpur Bar Secretariat, the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) and the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board would relocate to the Bar Council's current premises on Leboh Pasar Besar.  The requirements for such a building are:
(a) Location: Kuala Lumpur or Selangor
(b) Nett lettable Area: Approximately 50,000 square feet
(c) Tenure: Freehold
(d) Has parking bays
(e) Accessible by public transport
Members who have information about suitable properties for sale are invited to provide details by email to the undersigned at building@malaysianbar.org.my.
The Building Committee looks forward to receiving your feedback.
Thank you.
Karen Cheah Yee Lynn
Chairperson
Building Committee
