Implementation of Access Card and Boom Gates at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex

Dear Members of the Bar,
The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee have been informed that the KL Courts will be implementing Access Card and Boom Gates soon. The main objective of this is to improve the security of the left wing car park of the KL Courts.
Lawyers with the Bar Council stickers are allowed to park within the Court Complex at the open car park located on the right wing, if there are parking bays available. Lawyers are strictly prohibited from parking on the left wing of the KL Court Complex where boom gates will soon be fully operational.

Exclusive Preview for University of London Master of Laws Programme (25 Feb 2014)

The Continuing Professional Development ("CPD") Department is pleased to announce that Members of the Bar will be eligible to register for the University of London ("UOL") Postgraduate Laws Programme, which includes the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws ("PG Cert"), Postgraduate Diploma in Laws ("PG Dip"), and Master of Laws ("LLM"), through the Bar Council.
To provide Members with more information, the Johore Bar Committee, in collaboration with the CPD Department, is organising an exclusive LLM preview.  Details are as follows:
Date:                25 Feb 2014 (Tuesday)
Time:               3:00 pm to 5:30 pm (Registration will begin at 2:30 pm)
Venue:             Level 1, Johore Bar Auditorium, No 5 Jalan Tun Abd Razak, Susur 1/1, 80000 Johor Bahru
Fee:                 Admission is free but advance registration is required

The speaker, Dr James J Busuttil, is the Director of the UOL Postgraduate Laws Programme, and a staff at Queen Mary UOL and University College London.  He was Associate Professor of International Law and Organisation at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, the Netherlands; Director of the British Institute of Human Rights in London; Lecturer in Law at the University of Essex; and a practising lawyer in New York City and Washington, DC.  He was Co-Rapporteur of the International Law Association's Committee on Islamic Law and International Law.  Dr Busuttil holds a D Phil from the University of Oxford, a JD from New York University School of Law and a BA from Harvard University.
The UOL postgraduate laws programmes are conducted through University College London and Queen Mary UOL, which are rated as among the top 10 law faculties in the United Kingdom.  The programmes offer a wide choice of subjects and specialisations.  These programmes are flexible, as Members will be able to earn their postgraduate qualifications on a progressive basis.  Once enrolled, Members will receive complete learning materials, including up-to-date syllabi, study guides, textbooks, readers, access to the online library, eCampus, annual recent developments, past year examination questions, and skill guides.  This will allow Members to determine how to pace themselves through the postgraduate programmes.
Members can choose to register for individual modules (for professional development purposes), the PG Cert (5 modules), the PG Dip (10 modules), or the LLM (4 courses composed of 16 modules).
Assessments will be conducted in May and October each year in Malaysia, and Members can choose to register for any number of modules for each examination.  The assessment will require Members to answer one out of two questions in a 45-minute examination for each module assessed.

(1) Individual modules: Members can choose any module out of more than 200 modules available.  Please note that the CPD Department will award two CPD points for each module that Members have completed and passed.
(2) PG Cert: Members must select five modules from a maximum of four courses to complete, and will be required to register as a PG Cert student.  Please note that the CPD Department will award eight CPD points upon successful completion of the PG Cert.
(3) PG Dip: Members must select 10 modules from a maximum of four courses to complete, and will be required to register as a PG Dip student.  Please note that the CPD Department will award 12 CPD points upon successful completion of the PG Dip.
(4) LLM: Members must select four courses (equivalent to 16 modules) to complete, and will be required to register as an LLM student.  Please note that the CPD Department will award 16 CPD points upon successful completion of the LLM.
