Malaysia-Request for Feedback on Proposed Legal Profession (Group Practice) Rules 2013

Request for Feedback on Proposed Legal Profession (Group Practice) Rules 2013

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Circular No 155/2013
Dated 10 July 2013
To Members of the Malaysian Bar
Request for Feedback on
Proposed Legal Profession (Group Practice) Rules 2013
We refer to Circular No 175/2012 dated 9 Aug 2012.
The Small Firms Committee is in the midst of finalising the Legal Profession (Group Practice) Rules 2013 ("Rules"), which is attached for your reference.  When implemented, the Rules would, inter alia, allow law firms to share premises.  However, each firm will remain a separate legal entity.
Under the proposed Rules, a "group practice" must satisfy the following criteria:
(1)        Be a practice comprising two or more firms, with each firm having no more than five advocates and solicitors; and
(2)        Have no branch office which share premises in mutual co-operation, and expressly practise as separate firms.
Please spare some time to read through the proposed Rules and let us have your feedback.
Kindly send your input by email to germaine@malaysianbar.org.my, by 31 July 2013 (Wednesday).  Please do not hesitate to contact Germaine Low, Officer, by telephone at 03-2050 2094 should you require any clarification.
Thank you.
George Varughese
Chairperson
Small Firms Committee
