To Members of the Malaysian Bar and pupils in chambers
EGM of the Malaysian Bar | Logistics and Adjournment of Cases (3 Aug 2017)
We refer to Circular No 154/2017 dated 14 July 2017 entitled "Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (3 August 2017)", and Circular No 165/2017 dated 26 July 2017 entitled "Agenda and Motions for the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar (3 August 2017)".
(1) Date, Time and Venue
The Extraordinary General Meeting ("EGM") of the Malaysian Bar will be held as follows:
Date: 3 August 2017 (Thursday)
Time: 4:00 pm
Venue: Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (also known as "KLSCAH"), No. 1, Jalan Maharajalela, 50150 Kuala Lumpur

(2) Agenda and Motions
Attached is a document containing the motions that have been proposed for consideration at the EGM.  If you are a registered user of the Malaysian Bar website, you may also click here to view the motions.
(3) Getting There
Please note that parking space around KLSCAH is limited.  Therefore, we encourage you to use alternative means of transport, particularly public transport. 
The train station that is closest to KLSCAH is the Maharajalela Station (Monorail), which is a 2-minute walk away.
(4) Quorum
Please be reminded that in accordance with sections 65(4A) and 65(4B) of the Legal Profession Act 1976, the quorum for the EGM shall be 500 Members of the Malaysian Bar, and the EGM shall be dissolved if a quorum is not present by 5:00 pm.
(5) Adjournment of Cases to Attend the EGM
The Office of the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Malaysia ("CJ") has informed the Bar Council that Members of the Bar who wish to attend the EGM must apply to the relevant court to seek adjournment of court matters that are fixed on 3 Aug 2017.  Judges have the discretion to approve or reject such applications.
The letter from the Office of the CJ is attached for your reference.

Members are urged to make every effort to attend the EGM so that the issues on the agenda may be effectively discussed by as many Members as possible.
We look forward to your presence and participation at the EGM on 3 Aug 2017 (Thursday).

Notes
(1) Members are kindly requested to make every effort to attend the meeting punctually to ensure a quorum of 500.
(2) Registration counters will open from 2:30 pm.  Light refreshments will be served.
(3) All Members and pupils in chambers will be required to produce their National Registration Identity Card ("NRIC") or driver's licence in order to register their attendance for the EGM.
(4) All Members and pupils in chambers shall, upon registering their names, wear the designated wristbands for the purpose of admission.
(5) Pupils in chambers may attend but shall not vote, and shall be seated only at the area(s) designated for them.
(6) Under the Continuing Professional Development ("CPD") Scheme, Members and pupils in chambers will earn one CPD point for attending the EGM.
(7) For information on preferential hotel corporate rates secured by Bar Council, please refer to the current list, which can be downloaded from the scroll box located on the top right-hand section of the Malaysian Bar website, at www.malaysianbar.org.my.
