Dated 13 Sept 2013
To Members of the Malaysian Bar
Malaysiaku — Celebrating 50 Years of Malaysia Festival (16 Sept 2013)
On 16 Sept 2013, the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights ("MCCHR") (in collaboration with LB Training and supported by Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee, Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, Bar Council National Young Lawyers Committee and BFM) will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the formation of Malaysia with a forum entitled "Fifty Years of Democracy: Has It Weakened or Strengthened Our Federal Constitution".  The event is part of the Malaysiaku Celebrating 50 Years of Malaysia Festival.
Details of the forum are as follows:
Date:              16 Sept 2013 (Monday)
Time:             3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Venue:           Cava Restaurant, 71 Jalan Bangkung, Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar 59100 Kuala Lumpur
The forum will take a closer look at how the courts have interpreted the Federal Constitution and how the Federal Constitution, in the past 50 years, have affected the balance of powers in Malaysia.  As we reflect on the past, we will also discuss and look forward, with hope, towards the progressive vision of the Federal Constitution in the next 50 years.
The event will feature well-known speakers such as Dr Azmi Sharom, Associate Professor of Law, University of Malaya; Tommy Thomas, Advocate and Solicitor, High Court of Malaya; and Wan Saiful Wan Jan, CEO of IDEAS; and moderated by Ambiga Sreenevasan, former President of the Malaysian Bar.
Tickets are available at RM200 each from the MCCHR, and all event partners.  All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go towards supporting programmes carried out by the MCCHR.
