Seminar on Franchise Law in Malaysia (13 Apr 2012)

As part of its professional development programme, the Bar Council Professional Standards and Development Committee ("PSDC") is pleased to present a seminar on "Franchise Law in Malaysia". Details of the seminar are as follows:

Date:                          13 Apr 2012 (Friday)
Time:                         9:00 am sharp (Registration starts at 8:30 am)
Venue:                       Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, First Floor, Bar Council, No 15 Leboh Pasar Besar, 50050 Kuala Lumpur
Registration Fees:      Members of the Bar RM100 | Pupils in chambers RM80 | Law students RM50 | Non-Members RM150
The seminar, to be conducted by Mohd Amir Sharil Bahari b Md Noor and Sarah Ali, will cover the following topics:
  • Introduction to the Franchise Act 1998;
  • Overview of the Franchise Industry;
  • Franchising vs Licensing;
  • People Issues in the Area of Franchise;
  • Points in Drafting Excellent Franchise Agreements; and
  • Points in Legal and Operation Issues.
The registration counter will be opened at 8:30 am on the day of the event. The seminar will start at 9:00 am sharp. Please be punctual.

About the Speakers
  Mohd Amir Sharil Bahari b Md Noor, better known as Amir Bahari, graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia in 1997, and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1998. He served the Bar Council Syariah Law Committee for the 2006/07 and 2008/09 terms. Currently a partner in a law firm in Kuala Lumpur, his foci are in the areas of Syariah practice, and Islamic will writing and estate administration.
  Sarah Ali is a civil lawyer and founder of Sarah Ali & Co. She is also a trade mark agent, and her expertise is in the area of franchise operations in Malaysia. A graduate of Universiti Teknologi Mara, Sarah Ali is an advocate for grooming budding entrepreneurs in franchise and licensing.

Payment can be made by direct deposit (bank in to Hong Leong Bank Berhad, No 9 Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, 50000 Kuala Lumpur; Account No 0006-10-001810-1; Swift Code No: HLBBMYKL), or by cheque (made payable to "Bar Council"). Payment by cash can be made at the ground floor of the Bar Council Secretariat. Registration will be confirmed once full payment is received. All payments must be made in advance of the event.

There will be no refunds if cancellations are made after 5 Apr 2012 (Thursday) but substitutions are allowed. All cancellations have to be done by email or facsimile. Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, kindly complete and submit the attached reply slip, and proof of payment, by facsimile to 03-2026 1313.
